Proms Highlights: w/c 11th August 2008

I hope you managed to tune into some of last week's Proms, especially the late-night King's Singers Prom. It was also televised on BBC4 last night and can be found on the BBC iPlayer by clicking here.

Here are my recommendations for the next two weeks!

Prom 35: Tuesday 12 August
Starts at 7pm, including Elgar's In the South and Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade.

Prom 36: Tuesday 12 August
Late-night prom starting at 10.15pm by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. They will be performing the heartfelt All-Night Vigil (Vespers) by Rachmaninov. Absolutely stunning. Thanks to Tony Edwards for bringing this one to my attention.

Prom 37: Wednesday 13 August
Includes Ravel's La Valse and Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique.

Prom 38: Thursday 14 August
Includes Brahms' sublime 4th Symphony.

Prom 40: Friday 15 August
All- Janáček concert including his awesome Sinfonietta.

Prom 46: Wednesday 20 August
Valery Gergiev conducts the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) in Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty.

Prom 48: Friday 22 August
Includes Mahler's magnificent 5th Symphony and some Schubert Lieder too.

Proms 50-52: Sunday 24 August - Bach Day
I wish I were here for it, especially for Prom 51, St. John Passion performed by the Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists and conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner. The line up of soloists is also amazing, including Mark Padmore as the Evangelist and Robin Blaze singing counter-tenor. Not to missed!
