As you can see, the dance rehearsals have swapped. Thursday 1st Oct and Thursday 8th Oct remain as per the original schedule.

Classical Homework:

Using EineKleineNachtmusik, write a detailed explanation of the Exposition from Sonata Form. Include first and second themes, as well as keys.

Research into court and masque theatre music in England. Consider the following points:

When was it popular?

What were the differences between court comedies and masques? What were their purposes?

What about the Music? Identify main composers of this genre. Please read widely into this topic.
The Grove Online Dictionary is a useful source, as is Grout's A History of Western Music, which can be found in the Beaumont School Library. Useful information can also be found here in Buelow's book A History of Baroque Music.

Please also write a short synopsis of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and The Fairy Queen. Make sure you also listen to them with your scores. Click on the relevant work for its playlist in Spotify.

Due on Tuesday 29th September.

the composer’s interpretation of the text, through techniques of word setting
the expressive use of tonality in this interpretation
the contribution of the accompaniment to the interpretation
features of interpretation in the performance
You may sing/use the piano as part of your presentation or deliver it via PowerPoint. Please email any handouts for the class to me by Thursday 17th September by 10pm. You will present on Friday 18th September.

Hairspray Recalls

Thanks for coming to auditions! We have seen and heard 175 students in under 4 school days, and we have been extremely impressed with the overall standard and commitment. Please see information for the recalls below. These recalls are to confirm some decisions of which are unsure, however some casting decisions have already been made. Therefore, you may not have been recalled but may still be cast.
The cast list will be posted on the Music Blog on Friday 11th September from 6.30pm.
