Berlin 2013: Final Words of Wisdom

Dear all, As the excitement draws ever closer, please cast your eye over some final words of wisdom from Miss Doan and Mr Guinane: Packing We cannot overstate the importance of warm, sensible clothes. We are staying in a hostel so please pack a towel. Concert Dress Concert dress is all black. We will be performing in three concerts during the week. Musical performance is more often than not associated with some form of perspiration. Please bear this in mind when choosing the number of shirts/blouses/tops you bring. Please do not forget smart black shoes, and be aware of skirt length. Long Journeys The coach journey to and from Berlin is long. We would suggest you consider comfort as more important than fashion for this section of the trip. Avoid jeans and other tight-fitting clothes. Pack a toothbrush, deodorant and any other toiletries you feel you may need in your hand luggage. Optional extras include a pillow, an iPod (other MP3 players are available...

Preparations for Berlin

With under a week to go, here's a little reminder of what you need to think about this week: 1) Don't forget there is pretty comprehensive packing list on the back of the itinerary so please refer to that 2) Please can you bring a music stand, if you have one.  We need to as many as we can get.  3) CHOIR MUSIC: you MUST pack your music in your suitcase.  I will not be happy (be ready for the Doan glare) if you forget it. 4) CONCERT DRESS: smart all black (no leggings or short skirts), including SMART black shoes please. 5) There have been some changes to the itinerary but please pack your own so you have a good idea of what's going on. I think that's it for now. Updates will be made on Twitter this week too -please keep checking.

For your information, here are the rooms for Berlin. You won't be in them for very long!

Berlin Rooming and other info

We have now received details of rooming at the Youth Hostel in Berlin.  You need to get yourselves into rooms according to size and then turn up at the start of breaktime on Friday 1st February to register your desired combination.  Please don't forget, just because it's a room you want, you might not necessarily get it, depending on who else wants what.  Everyone needs a bed so don't leave anyone out, especially if they don't know many people.  If you have no idea what room you want to be in (or don't really mind) then please come to the meeting and we will allocate you a room.  You won't be there for very long so it shouldn't really matter. Boys: 3 rooms of 5 beds 1 room of 4 beds Girls: 5 rooms of 4 beds 4 rooms of 5 beds If you are in Years 7 to 11, you will receive your phone chain letter in your trays.  6th form, please come and collect them from Ms Doan's pigeon hole. Just to remind you that the next instalment of £200 is due by this Friday 22nd June. Thank you to those of you who have already paid!

Berlin 2013 Update

It was absolutely thrilling to discover that 62 of you would like to come on the Music Tour to Berlin in Feb 2013.  As you know, the original limit was 50 students.  I am now, however, investigating the possibility of a bigger coach but I don't want it to affect the cost too much.  We will find out by the end of the week if we can accommodate all of you, but if not, we will have to allocate places by lottery, with those missing the deadline forfeiting their place in the lottery.   Fingers crossed and watch this space!

Year 9 GCSE Music: 15/6/11(Nuts and Bolts: Scales, keys and chords)

You will see that the Powerpoint below does not have much information on it but should be used as an aide memoire for the lesson and as a way of checking your own learning. Year 9, you will need to start checking the blog often as both Mr Guinane and I will be posting homework, listening resources via Spotify, as well as lesson resources too. We will also post other items of interest so please watch this space. It's also nice to see some of you on Twitter. If you are a tweeter, follow us by clicking the button on the LH side of this blog. In the meantime, here is the Powerpoint for 15/6/11: Scales, keys and primary chords View more presentations from hanhdoan .
